In Guatemala, MEEMA turns discarded denim and cotton into everyday essentials for the kitchen and home. Three friends, Alejandro Torun, Jason Turton and Daniel Buchbinder, founded it in 2017 to create products made by The New Denim Project from denim waste that textile factories throw away. Its first product was a set of kitchen towels, still one of its customers' favorites.
MEEMA follows circular design and aims to get as close as it can to nature's cycle of zero waste. Its own production waste is turned into compost, which neighboring coffee growers use to grow Arabica beans.
MEEMA believes products should be manufactured with integrity, designed for function and, most of all, bring people joy. In 2022 it became a certified B Corporation, meeting standards for social and environmental impact.
